Making a bed with your own hands is an interesting idea. Do-it-yourself double bed

If you are from that category of people who like to tinker with something, then today we suggest you make a bed with your own hands, using the instructions given in this article. The work on the manufacture of the product will not take much time and money if you correctly treat the design process and the selection of material.

A homemade wooden bed will become an interior decoration, reflect skill and creativity. The subject of arrangement will differ from industrial products, which will add sophistication and uniqueness to the decoration of the room, add coziness and color.

The cost of furniture structures in stores is constantly increasing, therefore more and more people are planning to make wooden beds with their own hands. This is a great option to save your budget and implement interesting projects. With the availability of materials and equipment, the creation of a product becomes an opportunity to obtain high-quality furniture that is suitable in terms of parameters. Exclusive designs self made become an unsurpassed element of the interior, emphasizing impeccable style.

The advantage of homemade beds is the adaptation of the item to the interior characteristics. It happens that standard solutions, to one degree or another, do not fit the layout. It is more expensive to order a production item according to individual drawings. This leads to the fact that the craftsmen decide to independently implement the project.

Structural advantages:

  • profitability;
  • ease of assembly;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • variability of ideas;
  • durability;
  • the ability to realize your own "Wishlist" and wishes.

In addition, it is much more profitable and more convenient to make a bed for a dacha with your own hands than to buy a structure in a furniture store, paying for expensive delivery. It is enough to buy materials or use available raw materials. A variety of sketches will help you think over your own product, which is ideal for the interior. You can design your own piece of furniture that combines the necessary elements.

What is better to make

The selection of materials becomes the most important stage in planning. Wooden beds are divided into many options. The advantages of using this raw material are its aesthetic appearance, ease of processing and assembly. It is important that most often the types of materials are combined, which makes it possible to make a strong and durable structure. For this, timber, furniture boards are used.

In comparison, metal products are more difficult to manufacture; skills, specialized equipment are required.

At the same time, wooden furniture looks much more comfortable, fills the room with warmth, and also effectively emphasizes the features of the interior design.

From a bar

The overwhelming majority prefers to make the bed from a bar. The frame of most of these products is made from it. Such raw materials are the most durable, they keep their shape, with proper processing and operation, they do not lend themselves to cracking, drying out. Depending on the decor, a softer or denser wood is selected.

If you plan to make carved elements, it is preferable to choose soft, pliable wood varieties. If there is no need for a thread, it is recommended to buy a more durable raw material, the fibers of which are located as tightly as possible. Products from a bar provide for a rather massive look. They are suitable for hi-tech, loft, modern and similar types of interior design.

From planks

Products made from boards are in great demand, as they make the project more economical and easier to implement. It should be noted that it is advisable to make the frame still from a bar, and lay the boards as partitions in the middle of the product, where the sleeping place will be located.

The material is economical, durable, and, if necessary, it is easier to dismantle and replace. The arrangement of the logs can be dense, that is, the elements are in contact with each other, as well as at a certain interval. Boards are also used for the manufacture of the headboard, backrest of the product. Elements of various types and sizes will help create unique and optimal design solutions.

From an array

It is important to understand that solid wood is a processed canvas of raw materials. It includes timber, boards.

It is of two types:

  1. Whole. A homogeneous piece of solid wood.
  2. Glued. In the presence of chips and deformations, the canvas is sawn, the damaged area is removed, and then glued to obtain necessary element... The principle is similar to the production of plywood, but wood waste is used for it, and the glued array provides for solid components. This type is more economical.

The advantage of a handmade solid pine bed is strength and durability. The design makes disassembly and assembly easier.

From logs

A more economical type of raw material, but at the same time no less high-quality and effective. The principle of composing furniture is similar to working with boards and beams. Correct handling and installation will help create a sturdy product. It is preferable to select logs of solid wood species.

This type of material has a natural pattern, it will look great as furniture for a summer residence. In addition, logs do not have to be purchased, they can be prepared by yourself. In this case, it is important to correctly prepare and process the array. Logs allow you to create the most cozy, comfortable and original furniture products.

Of shields

Furniture panels are becoming one of the optimal and inexpensive materials. They are glued wood lamellas (high grade wood veneer). Wood panels combine the advantages of a solid solid wood, but at the same time cost more budget than solid wood. Such raw materials are strong, economical, durable and decorative.

This material is most often used for the manufacture of furniture. Not only beds are made from it, but also other products, for example, cabinets, wardrobes, chests of drawers, sofas, etc.

Plywood

The material itself is a different type of glued veneer. Usually the plywood cover is continuous, therefore it does not lend itself to partial replacement in comparison with laying the boards. In addition, this type does not provide for adequate ventilation of the mattress. There is no orthopedic effect.

A do-it-yourself plywood bed will be a good option for a summer residence. It will cost more profitably, but at the same time it will be less strong and durable in comparison with solid wood, beams.

Where to begin

Product design always starts with a project. It is important to determine the dimensions of the object, draw up a drawing. Correct calculations guarantee a successful development process. It is better to make notes in a separate notebook, a sketch of the structure, indicating the necessary details with the calculation of the dimensions. You also need to prepare equipment and fasteners in advance.

Bed diagrams and drawings

We offer examples of drawings for a double bed with designations of dimensions and other parameters.

You can rely on the diagram, but at the same time edit it based on the necessary requirements. Furniture structures of other widths are made according to this principle. The design features are determined by the characteristics of the project.

Material and necessary tools

Beforehand, it is important to properly prepare the raw materials. Usually, already processed material is sold in stores. The bars are treated with a bioprotective solution. Wooden elements must be planed.

The amount of material is indicated for a double bed.

  • 100 * 100, 50 * 50 cm by 2.6 m.;
  • wooden board 60 * 240 cm.
  • 20 pcs. 25 * 75 cm by 2 m;
  • 6 pcs. 100 * 50 cm by 2.6 m;
  • 4 things. 25 * 150 cm by 2.6 m;
  • 1 PC. 25 * 250 cm x 2 m, 2 pcs. 2.6 m each;
  • 1 PC. 25 * 100 cm by 2.6 m.

The tools will help make the bed:

  • circular, miter saws;
  • ruler angle;
  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • drill screwdriver;
  • hammer, rubber mallet;
  • clamps;
  • socket wrench;
  • fastening material.

Depending on the readiness of the elements, the list of equipment may vary. You can order a timber already sawn to size.

How to make a bed out of wood with your own hands

The production process is largely determined by the design of the bed. Today there are many different variations of projects that allow you to realize the most interesting ideas. These can be structures with side backs, podiums, bunk or classic products.

A single bed is a good option for a summer residence

Do-it-yourself chipboard bed is a universal design for a country house. Such an element does not take up much space, does not require significant assembly efforts, and will serve excellently for many years. But it is important that chipboard itself does not lend itself to cutting. Therefore, if you want to decorate the headboard of the product with carvings, this type of panel will not work. A bed with a width of 75-100 cm is called a single bed.

A do-it-yourself single bed most often provides for a frame made of more durable beams. The backrests can be made of laminated chipboard, and the sleeping cover is made of plywood. This method provides for a minimum of financial expenses, and the structure will have sufficient ease for trouble-free movement.

It is quite simple to make a bed from chipboard with your own hands, and if the materials have already been sawn, it will not take much time and labor. We will consider the principles of assembly below.

One and a half bed - a universal design option

If more space is required, the one and a half type will be optimal. Such a bed provides for a width of 150 cm. The materials of production can be timber, plywood, chipboard, fiberboard.

Quite rarely, expensive wood is used for such purposes. For suburban operation, the production of a bed from plywood with your own hands will be optimal.

How to make a double bed

You can make a double bed with your own hands according to this step by step instructions... The width of the product is 140-200 cm.

Manufacturing process:

  1. The frame is assembled.
  2. The height of the legs is determined. The height of the side parts is added to it. The resulting length is cut from a bar 100 * 100 cm. These will be the legs, respectively, 4 elements are needed. The fasteners for the side components are mounted at the desired height with screws.
  3. The width of the sleeping area is determined. 2 boards with dimensions of 50 * 100 cm are cut off, they should be equal to the width of the mattress, but you need to add 2 cm for normal bedding. Add 2 cm to the length of the mattress, saw off 2 more strips 50 * 100. We mount all 4 boards to fasteners on legs. For a double bed, one longitudinal partition is provided in the middle of the product so that the side beams do not burst.
  4. For the manufacture of the base, boards of 25 * 75 cm are needed. Fasteners are made approximately every 7 cm. This will allow the mattress to be ventilated, and will also provide shock absorption.

This is one way to make a wooden bed.

A bed with drawers - a practical option

V Lately functional furniture is appreciated, which provides the ability to store a large number of things. So you can design a bed with boxes with your own hands based on a regular project.

A higher design is provided with guides installed in the legs. They make it possible to organize pull-out wardrobes. The product is optimal not only for summer cottages, but also at home, as it functions as a chest of drawers.

Finishing the finished bed

The finishing of the structure is the final stage of the design.

Stages of work:

  1. Cut 2 strips in width, as well as 2 in length of the product. To do this, you need a board of 20 * 250 cm. Glue the elements around the perimeter of the structure in the appropriate places so that the top of the component matches the upper part of the bar-legs. You need to fix them with clamps, wait for drying. You can screw the boards with self-tapping screws, and then install the furniture plugs.
  2. For the upper side, you will need a board with a width equal to the width of the bar-legs with the thickness of the finishing panel (glued or bolted element). Saw off 4 boards of the required parameters. Along the edges, even bevels are cut off at 45 degrees.
  3. The timber frame is reinforced with stiffening ribs. A beam of 50 * 50 cm is used. It is necessary to saw off the panels along the height of the side parts. It will take 20 elements. Details are fixed to the base of the structure with self-tapping screws.
  4. Then the top strips are mounted.
  5. The remaining joints must be putty with wood mixture. After the bed is processed with sandpaper to smooth out irregularities. Then you need to walk over the structure with a soft brush to brush away the sawdust.

Using modern tools, you can develop a unique bed design with your own hands.

For painting, a stain or special paint is used; to protect the surface, it is varnished.

Making a wooden product is not such a difficult process. The main thing is to think over the design, rely on the correct drawing, and also have high-quality tools and skills.

If you have any questions, require some clarification or clarification - write in the comments below.

In the season of gardens and vacations, you want to spend more time outdoors near your favorite beds, spruce forest and river. But you have to spend time returning to the apartment under the roof of a city high-rise building, because the garden house does not have a comfortable bed , and your living room without a bedroom and a bedside bed is right next to the dining table. Do not despair!

It all depends on how and where you want to use it. A single bed is enough for your teenage child bed ... If you are a large physique, then a comfortable sleep will come only on the "lorry".

Are you married? So, you need a double bed made of solid wood.

If there is enough space, then equip a pull-out bed under the podium, and on top place a cozy seating area with a coffee table, to which stairs lead. In a small room, where every square meter is valuable, build bed on the podium.

Build in drawers to store bedding, clothes and other items.

For bedding, place a tall, narrow drawer with a top hinged lid at the head of the bed. It is convenient to store pillows and blankets in it during the day, and a cape at night.Assemble a nice decorative back and nail to the wall above the headboard. Place night lights on it.

This will give your bed an aristocratic chic and comfort.

Select material and decide on the price

Metal is too expensive, requires a specially equipped workshop, a welding machine, has a large specific gravity and does not retain heat well. Good furniture can be assembled at home from affordable lumber without overpaying for a well-known brand.

Building a wooden bed with your own hands will be cheaper than buying a finished one in a store.

How to make a bed out of wood with your own hands

Best for bed wood of medium (from 550 to 760 kg / m³) and high density - over 760 kg / m³. It wears out less, but is more difficult to process.

Pine is optimal in terms of strength and ease of processing.

IMPORTANT! Spruce is not suitable for load-bearing elements and legs of the bed ... It quickly collapses from stress.

For the supporting frame, select boards or a beam of dense wood - larch, birch. The legs can be made of bars, and the slats for the mattress are made of cheap pine boards 2 cm thick. Thin spruce boards 0.5 cm. Check the material carefully for knots, irregularities and roughness.

The fewer such defects are, the easier it is to process it with a grinder.

Check the curvature of the workpieces in a simple and effective way.

  1. Raise it by one of the ends to eye level.
  2. The ribs going from the closest to the far end should represent a straight line in perspective - their curvature will be noticeable immediately.

ATTENTION! Be sure to make a drawing. Consider the size of your mattress. They may not match the ones below. Inner space of the frame bed should be a little more. Allowed an allowance within 30 mm.

Decide immediately on the presence and height of the legs.

Bed solid wood can be made without them by gluing cloth pads at the corners to protect the floor from scratches. For light single beds and "one and a half" the optimal height will be 35-40 cm - you can vacuum and wash the floor or build a drawer for storing things and clothes.

ADVICE! Try to reinforce the joints with a furniture corner where possible.

Making a bed of wood with your own hands may not be the most simple solution, but the most profitable.

Entry level bed

Under a mattress with dimensions 80x190 or 90x200 cm, build a simple single bed do-it-yourself bed made of wood ... It is suitable for an adult or teenager. For manufacturing you will need:

  • B rus for four legs with a section of 50x50mm;
  • D oska 25x245 mm for side boards and footboards, 25x100 mm - for the manufacture of overlapping slats, 25x200 mm- for the headboard wall;
  • B rus with a section of 50x25mm for the manufacture of support beams for floor slats;

Materials for making a bed.

In addition to good lumber, purchase:

  • Furniture corners or bed screeds.
  • TO self-tapping screws 60 mm;
  • Pins length 80 and a cross-sectional diameter of 8 mm;
  • With roofing glue;
  • M orilka or impregnation for wood;
  • A krill water varnish.

Materials required for work.

During the assembly of this and other options bed use tools:

  • D rail and screwdriver;
  • N small hand plane;
  • R circular saw or furniture hacksaw;
  • Sh bodice machine or sander;
  • N a few clamps;
  • TO sources for applying glue, varnish and stain;
  • R sliding carpentry square;
  • WITH building level;
  • M alka - a device for quick marking of the cut corners;
  • WITH tuslo - a tool for fast and accurate sawing of workpieces at an angle of 45 and 90 °;
  • AND measuring tape.

Tools that come in handy at work.

Assemble the headboard first. From a bar with a section of 50x50 mm, cut two legs up to 80 cm high. Drill 4-6 holes with a diameter of 8 mm and a depth of 30 mm in their upper part from the inner sides. From boards 25x200 mm, cut two blanks 950 mm wide. From the ends, make holes up to 50 mm deep, matching those that you made on the legs.

Lubricate the parts with wood glue at the joints and fasten with dowels, carefully hammering in with a mallet.

The foot is made from boards 25x240x950 mm and two pieces of timber 400 mm high.

Fasten them in the same way.

The backs are fastened to the side walls of 25x250x1900 mm with furniture corners or ties, aligned along the outer edge legs.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION! Ties will make it easy to disassemble furniture when moving.

Along the lower edge of the right and left walls, using wood glue and clamps, install support beams 25x50 mm and the length 190-200 cm. After drying, before removing the clamps, the beams are additionally screwed in with self-tapping screws.

Assembling the side wall of the bed.

From boards 25x100 mm, make 12-14 cross battens the length 95 cm. From the left and right ends, drill through holes with a diameter of 3 mm at a distance of 12 mm from the edge. Lay them across the support beams at a distance of 35-50 mm and tighten the self-tapping screws.

Final assembly of the bed.

IMPORTANT! All parts must be sanded before assembly. Use a sliding square to check the "straightness" of the corners between the side walls and backrests bed ... With a building level, control the horizontal arrangement of the frame structural elements.

Grind the rough surface with a sander. The outer ribs of the backrests and other parts can be chamfered to prevent wood chipping and improve appearance. To increase the service life, treat wood stain and dry. Cover with acrylic varnish.

As you can see, making a wooden single bed is not at all difficult.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION! So that the ends legs did not scratch the floor when moving, you can glue felt pads to them.

One and a half bed

There are differences in the design of the backs, and its longitudinal axis is reinforced with a lintel with a leg, which prevents the mattress from sagging.

It is made under a mattress with dimensions 140x200 cm.

The headboard of the lorry consists of a wall and two legs ... Make a wall from 2-3 boards the length 1400 mm and 25 mm thick, reaching the desired height (30-40 cm). The legs are made of 50x50x800 mm timber. Fastening wall elements and legs It is made with sheet piles 8x80 mm, wood glue and reinforced with long self-tapping screws from 65 mm.

The foot is assembled in the same way.

Side boards of the bed - the half-lorries must be on the same level with the lower boards of the backs and have the same height.Redesign the backrests for variety bed ... The middle wall board can be replaced with short vertical inserts from the same boards fastened with tongue and groove.

Corners can be cut at the outer edge of the top board.

To do this, with the help of a special tool - malki - they make markings with a pencil. Malka consists of a handle pressed to the edge boards , a narrow metal plate with a longitudinal cut, and a fastening bolt that allows you to fix the plate by specifying the desired angle and length of the cut. In this simple way, you quickly draw symmetrical sawing lines on the left and right ends. To prevent the hacksaw from slipping off the line, press a wooden guide bar along the marking with clamps.

To give interesting kind the bed before varnishing can be limited to applying the stain only on the surface of the legs and backs.

How to make a double bed out of wood

Two adults are serious weight, which requires a more thorough approach in the choice of material and assembly method. Make a solid wood sleeping bed.

A standard double mattress measuring 200 x 160 cm is taken as a basis.

You will need the following materials:

  • B rusok 50x50 mm for the legs and the bed frame, 3x3 cm - for support beams for mattress slats;
  • D oski 20x100 mm for transverse flooring under the mattress;
  • M metal furniture corner with shelf width from 50 mm;
  • With self-tapping screws 40 and 65 mm long.

Of the tools, you will need an electric jigsaw equipped with a file with large and widely spaced teeth.

First, we assemble the frame for bed with internal dimensions of 210x170 cm and a height of at least 15-20 cm. To do this, glue three or four pieces of timber together, tighten with clamps. After drying, we cut it in such a way as to get two blanks for the side boards the length 220 cm each and two for the backs - 180 cm each.

In the same way, we assemble a longitudinal lintel with a height of 10 cm and a length of 210 cm.

Apply a lock connection when assembling. To do this, on short workpieces using a jigsaw, cut out a recess, removing a segment from the middle the length 5 cm. On long side panels bed , leave a "thorn", sawing off at the top and bottom by 5 cm.

Apply glue to the grooves and thorns and connect them at right angles, checking with a sliding "square".

Attach the longitudinal lintel with additional support in the middle using a metal corner with a shelf width of 50 mm, aligning it with the lower edge of the frame. In the corners, attach the legs from a bar up to 40 cm high.Fasten with glue and self-tapping screws.

Secure the joints with clamps for strength.

For greater reliability, make legs bed from a thicker bar. For a sleek look, chamfer the inside at a 45 ° angle using a miter box. Don't overdo it - the footprint should be large enough to support a lot of weight. When installing the legs, use long countersunk head screws with washers and wood glue.

Place triangular inserts at the bottom of each corner to prevent deformation of the structure.

Glue 3x3x210 cm timber beams along the long side walls.

Their top edge should be in the same plane with the top edge of the web.

Slats are made from 20x100 mm boards the length 170 cm.They are laid and fixed across the lintel and longitudinal support beams at intervals of 3 cm.

The first and last slats should adjoin the front and rear walls of the frame, the rest should be evenly distributed between them.

IMPORTANT! To prevent the slats from squeaking, make them 1 cm shorter than the inner frame width.

After completing the assembly, carefully sand the surface with a grinder or drill with a special nozzle using medium and fine-grained sandpaper.Cover with wood stain, and after drying - with water-based acrylic varnish in several layers.

For double bed you can make a wall-mounted headboard from 2-3 boards the length 25x100x1800 mm and 10-12 boards 25x100x450 mm. The first row that will contact the back will go short boards ... On the seamy side, it is necessary to equip the hidden fasteners. In the appropriate places of the headboard, screw metal plates with self-tapping screws, the free lower edge of which will be inserted when hanging into the grooves of the tires.

The most reliable solution would be to fix the rails for wall cabinets with dowels - according to the number of short boards.

If you don't like a hard headboard, assemble it with upholstery from the following layers:

  • D JV or plywood 1 cm;
  • P orolon from 3 cm;
  • In atin;
  • O leopard fabric with an interesting pattern;

Cut a 45x180 cm base from a piece of plywood or chipboard.

Chamfer the ribs and sand thoroughly to avoid tearing the upholstery and batting.

Cut a blank of the same size and shape from expanded polystyrene or foam rubber. Place it on the chipboard and make some symmetrical holes for the decorative buttons. Measure and cut the batting and upholstery fabric to the shape of the blank with an allowance equal to the sum of the thicknesses of all blanks, multiplied by two.

Make sure the holes are symmetrical.

Use glue or a special spray to glue the foam rubber to the base. Spread the batting gently on the floor. Lay the chipboard blank on it.

Fold the hemmed down, starting from the bottom, and use a furniture stapler to nail to the chipboard.

Repeat this operation with the upholstery. To prevent the fabric from wrinkling, iron it and tighten it properly using the clamps screwed to the middle of the workpiece.

IMPORTANT! Don't skimp on staple staples. Nobody will see them anyway.

Finally, "sew on" the sofa buttons. From the seamy side of the headboard, pierce the upholstery with a large "boot" needle and pull through a thick, coarse thread, thread it through the eye of the button and bring it back out through the same hole.

Secure the ends of the thread with a stapler on the wrong side of the back.

Hang the upholstered headboard on the wall using the wall cabinet rails.

A wooden bed with your own hands, made according to a personal project, will cost less than a purchased one.

Remember, the lack of extra money and the lack of living space are not an obstacle to the realization of the desire to sleep comfortably.

VIDEO: Do-it-yourself double bed made of wood.

In the modern market for goods and services, you can find absolutely everything, but many people prefer to make an interior item on their own, without resorting to the help of specialists. A do-it-yourself double bed, drawings and diagrams of which are attached, can become a real decoration of the bedroom interior. To make such a bed, you need to familiarize yourself with the general recommendations of specialists, make a drawing and a plan of sequential actions. The drawing is needed to calculate the necessary materials, funds for their purchase and drawing up a sequence of installation work.

Preparatory work

A do-it-yourself double bed has a number of advantages - it is the ability to choose the required size, design, shape of the legs, as well as the quality of the finished product in the end result, thanks to which the bedroom turns into a masterpiece.

The main details in its manufacture are:

  • design, which can be classic or with a lifting system;
  • a drawing that helps in the preparation and manufacture of parts;
  • sequential action plan.

Drawings and diagrams

Not a single work on the manufacture of interior items is complete without drawings and diagrams. The manufacture of a double design was no exception. Below you can see several options for drawings and diagrams often used in the manufacture of double models.

Having decided on the type and size of the double bed, you need to make a detailed drawing. The scheme allows you to buy the required amount of building materials of a certain size or order their production in a furniture workshop. The drawing is also used throughout the entire construction process, for the manufacture of individual elements with your own hands and their fasteners.

Materials and tools for work

The double bed can be regular or with a lifting mechanism. Their manufacturing technique is slightly different from each other, since the product with a lifting mechanism has an additional box for storing things and a lifting frame for a berth.In order to determine the size of the product, you need to take into account the size of the factory mattress that you plan to purchase.To make a standard double bed with your own hands, you will need such materials.

When choosing a material, many are faced with wood of different qualities. Experts recommend choosing high quality wood only for the supporting structure. Second-class material is available for the legs and bottom rails. If there is not enough money for high-quality material, you can buy chipboard or plywood.

If you plan to make a product with a lifting mechanism, then a little more materials will be required. Since, in addition to the main frame, it is also necessary to make a lifting frame for a berth. For its manufacture, you can use metal building materials. The drawing should include not only the building material, but also the type of the lifting mechanism, because its installation plays an important role.

Choosing a board

Tools that will be required:

  • roulette;
  • pencil or marker;
  • brushes;
  • sandpaper;
  • wood putty;
  • varnish, stain;
  • glue for wood;
  • self-tapping screws (30, 50, 60 mm);
  • measuring square;
  • drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • clamps;
  • grinding machine;
  • construction stapler;
  • hacksaw.

When cutting parts according to the dimensions of the drawing, you need to mark them as accurately as possible.

Main frame

The process of making a double bed with your own hands begins with the main frame. A product with a lifting mechanism is also made from its base, which consists not only of four boards, but also of the bottom, as in the photo.

Assembling the frame

Stages of frame manufacturing:

  • in the prepared parts, it is necessary to make holes for fasteners with a drill. The diameter should correspond to the 30 mm self-tapping screws that are used to fasten the boards;

We prepare holes for fastening
  • clean the ends of the boards with sandpaper or a grinder;

We clean the ends of the boards with a grinder
  • open them with wood glue;
  • insert self-tapping screws into the drilled holes, fasten the boards with a screwdriver or screwdriver;
We fasten the boards with self-tapping screws
  • after finishing bonding, you need to remove all excess glue using a damp cloth;
Remove excess glue with a damp cloth
  • at the end, it is necessary to check all the corners of the structure, make sure that they are straight, using a construction square;
  • after the frame has dried, you need to paint it. The color of the stain is chosen solely from the personal preferences of the owner;

Finished frame after painting
  • if the frame is made in the form of a box, it is necessary to make the bottom, which can be solid (made of plywood), or rack and pinion.

Fixing the supports for the rack bottom

The batten supports are attached in the same way as the frame.

Rack bottom support technology:

  • in the support boards, it is necessary to drill holes for the thickness of the screws, in increments of 25 cm;
  • for fixing the boards, it is better to put the frame on its side and having drawn a line at a distance of 5 cm from its bottom, you can proceed to the installation steps;
I put the frame on its side for fixing the boards
  • before attaching the support boards, they must be greased with wood glue;
  • fastening along the frame along its edges, using self-tapping screws 50 mm;
  • for stability during the drying of the glue, the support block must be pressed, for this you can use clamps. An example can be seen in the photo;

The frame with the bar was fixed until completely dry.
  • the middle support board is fixed parallel to the two previous ones, at the same height, by drilling holes in its ends;
  • the remaining holes from the fasteners must be sealed with putty and cleaned with sandpaper after it dries.

Legs

Making legs with your own hands is the simplest step in the entire construction process.

The whole manufacturing process:

  • a prepared timber with a section of 10x10 cm needs to be cut into 6 bars 10.5 cm long;

Preparation for future legs
  • fastening is made to the support bars;
  • for the strength of the frame, two additional legs are attached under the central support, at a distance of 50 cm from the edges of the frame;
  • for their decoration, you can give them any shape. You can saw off one of the corners about 3 cm from the bottom, at an angle of 45 degrees, as in the photo;
  • at the end of the work, it is necessary to grind all sides.

Fastening all created elements:

  • as mentioned above, the legs are attached to the support boards of the frame. To do this, you must use self-tapping screws 60 mm. You need to spend at least two for each leg;
It looks like the attachment of the legs from the inside
  • holes are pre-drilled with a drill, a drill, the diameter of which coincides with the section of the self-tapping screws.

Legs attached to the frame

Before screwing in the self-tapping screws, you must first drill the holes, which will reduce the risk of splitting the boards.

Decorative elements

Decorative elements play an important role in finishing the product; thanks to them, the bedroom will sparkle with new colors. One of the options for finishing elements is wood slats, 5 by 2.5 cm thick, which should also be included in the drawing.

Manufacturing process:

  • it is necessary to make the required size of the slats from the prepared materials;
  • prepared slats must be sanded, painted with a stain, the color of which is chosen from personal preferences and the design of the room;
  • after drying, they are covered with water-based varnish;
  • after opening the first layer of varnish, you need to polish the slats from the appearance of all kinds of bubbles. Next, apply two more coats of varnish;
  • the painting procedure must also be carried out with the legs.

Fastening:

  • decorative trim is attached with glue;
  • it is necessary to apply glue to the surface of the frame and finishing battens;
  • with the help of clamps, press them for a while, preferably until the glue is completely dry;
  • all excess glue must be wiped with a damp cloth;
  • the fastening of the rails can be done both with nails and with self-tapping screws.

Fastening the lifting mechanism requires additional skills, since its installation must be of high quality and safe. There are three types of mechanism, the installation of each of which occurs in a different way. Therefore, having chosen a certain type, you need to carefully study the scheme of its installation or resort to the help of specialists.

Reiki

For making classic beds with your own hands, the slats are placed on the support boards of the frame. And in products with a lifting mechanism, they fit on a lifting frame. Or it is possible to lay them on two frames at the same time, since on the frame they are used for the bottom, and on the lifting frame, for laying the mattress.

Reiki is made very simply:

  • according to the specified dimensions, it is necessary to measure the length of the slats and saw off from the purchased boards;
Layout of boards for the manufacture of slats
  • for convenience and practicality, so that there are no discrepancies in the length of the battens, the first strip can be used as a sample, and subsequent boards can be marked on its basis;
  • having finished the process of making the rails, you need to grind each one.

How to make a headboard and what is needed for this

A headboard in a double bed is needed for three main reasons:

  • it is a decorative element;
  • protects the wall covering from rubbing;
  • for comfort.

The headboard can be of different sizes, shapes and coverings, it all depends on personal preferences, the interior of the room and financial capabilities. Here is a photo of a few examples.

Before making it, you also need to make a drawing with your own hands, which will indicate the dimensions and necessary materials. Mainly used plywood sheet, upholstery fabric and foam rubber, to create a soft and airy headboard.

Complete manufacturing technology:

  • the first thing to do is to measure the width and height of the headboard. Transfer all dimensions to a plywood sheet and cut out details;

Cut the foam rubber according to the size of the workpiece
  • if the rectangular shape of the headboard does not suit you, you can make it round or ornate. To do this, prepare a piece and a jigsaw in advance;
  • irregularities and notches resulting from the sawing process must be treated with sandpaper;
  • to make a soft headboard, you will need foam rubber, a stapler and upholstery fabric. Attach the foam rubber to the headboard blank with a stapler and cover with prepared fabric;

Foam rubber must be attached with a stapler and covered with an upholstery fabric
  • if you plan to make an ordinary headboard, then the plywood blank must be opened with varnish or paint;
  • The finished headboard can be attached directly to the sleeping area or to the wall.

The bedroom should create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, which is achieved through design and furniture attributes. A good bed is needed not only to decorate a room, but also to ensure a sound, comfortable sleep, which can be achieved with the right bed. You can not only purchase it, but also do it yourself. Having fulfilled all the requirements, the product will serve for a long time, performing all its intended functions.

Even the most simple model beds are sold at a price of at least 7,500 rubles. For some, this is not money, but the main problem is different. Not every finished bed can be placed where you want - typical dimensions do not allow. And if we are talking about a small garden house, a modest veranda or a gazebo, then the size of the product is a determining criterion, and hardly anyone will buy a bed for such use in a furniture showroom, given its cost.

The expediency of making wood furniture with your own hands in many cases is more than obvious. And how to competently approach the solution of this issue, what to foresee - we will consider all the nuances of organizing the "home production" of a wooden bed with our own hands.

On many sites, it is recommended when choosing bed parameters to be guided by standard mattress sizes (2000 x 1500). The argument is that it should fit snugly in place. Is it really relevant, the author suggests to the reader to decide. It is only worth noting that the beauty of making with your own hands is the ability to choose not only materials, but also the dimensions and shapes of any product.

The same goes for the mattress. If desired, it is easy to "construct" yourself. For example, from foam rubber sheets, which will not be difficult to cover with a fabric (a cover, sewn to size). As a last resort, the mattress can be ordered from a special workshop, according to an individual drawing. Therefore, "looking back" at him is hardly reasonable.

So, we will start the instructions for making a wooden bed with the preparatory measures.

Main - for the frame

High-quality wood blanks (boards, beams) are expensive. How can you save money? For the frame, you should take even samples, with a minimum of knots. This will allow you to polish the wood more thoroughly (a grinder to help) and decorate it with high quality, and with anything. As a rule, homemade beds are varnished, and all defects are clearly visible through its layer. But for legs, slats, you can purchase wood at a lower price. Given that these elements are not so striking, second-rate products are enough.

The wood species also matters. Since few people nowadays put homemade beds in living rooms (except from expensive wood, by special order), you should choose breeds that are less susceptible to decay (). After all, hand-made such pieces of furniture are installed mainly in rooms (or outside them), in which temperature drops and dampness are frequent.

Larch and pine can be distinguished from the species available for the price. Spruce, although it is a coniferous tree, should not be used. She has a soft structure, therefore, there is no need to talk about the strength of the bed. Its structure will loosen up rather quickly, and you will have to systematically repair it.

For finishing the bed

Homemade beds are rarely painted. Basically, the material is polished with high quality and. Few people use a primer for surface treatment of wood, although the expediency of its use is obvious. First, by penetrating into the structure, the soil strengthens its top layer. Secondly, the consumption of paint and varnish is reduced, since the impregnation has already filled all the microcavities. And given the cost of varnish High Quality, which significantly exceeds the price of primer compounds - an important aspect.

Drawing up a drawing

We'll have to answer two questions - how many people the bed is designed for, and how old they are. Recommended sizes:

  • width: for one - 95 ± 5, for two - 180 ± 15. For the so-called "lorry" 130 ± 20 is enough;
  • length: for a child - 150, for an adult - 200;
  • frame height - within 40.

But to be reminded is not a standard, but just a recommendation. The choice of parameters is made arbitrarily, based on the specifics of the installation of the bed.

Selection of lumber

The scheme of a wooden bed is simple, but using the same samples to make the same type, but several different structural parts, is hardly reasonable.

Frame

For the side walls, a board (2 pcs.) 2 500 x 300 is taken. The thickness is in the range of 20 - 25. But for the front and rear there are options. In order to reduce the cost of the product, you can use ready-made plates. For example, OSV or chipboard, but only laminated. A protective coating and strength will add to the material, and the problem with an attractive appearance will decide.

Some craftsmen assemble the front and rear "shields" from the same board, then sheathed them with thin plywood. How much better it is, everyone will determine for himself, but the fact that it will take much more time to make such a wooden bed is unambiguous.

Legs

A bar with a side of 40 is enough. The length depends on how much you want to raise the bed above the floor. Exactly the same wood samples are suitable for use as frame supports. It is not difficult to calculate the total length of the workpiece, depending on the parameters of the bed indicated in the drawing.

Frame

The mattress will fit on it. A thin, narrow board is quite suitable (the main thing is to correctly determine the interval between the elements), and a small section bar. Alternatively, thick plywood or chipboard. The frame layout is so simple that it is not difficult to choose the optimal workpieces.

Required tool

Explaining point by point what exactly is needed to work with wood, to an economic person, is a waste of time. You just need to not forget about the level (building)... At each stage of assembling a wooden bed, you will have to control the strict symmetry of all its component parts. To determine "by eye" whether it turns out to be even means to doom yourself in advance to alteration of the entire structure.

You will definitely need a joiner's clamp. In the process of making a wooden bed, an adhesive is used. Each of them is characterized by its own time of complete hardening. Since the workpieces must be securely fixed during the drying period, you cannot do without a clamping device. How to do it yourself, what modifications are there for domestic use,.

The assembly itself according to a well-drawn up drawing and with the necessary tools is done quite quickly.

  • Any markings are small errors, which is quite natural if the cutting of wood is done not by machine, but by hand. In order to achieve the maximum identity of the same type of structural elements, it is necessary to make one of them with extreme precision, the first. Using it as a reference, all the rest are made according to this template.
  • When surface processing wood blanks, it is advisable to at least slightly round off the sharp edges. For a more thorough leveling of the substrate, it is recommended to use a household sander. Working with this tool will give not only high results, but also great time savings. About varieties.
  • Joining structural parts only by gluing or using fasteners (screws, self-tapping screws) does not guarantee the durability of a wooden bed. The structure of the material is quite soft. In the process of using the bed, one way or another, it will be subjected to at least insignificant dynamic loads. Especially when it comes to the "child" version - kids love to jump on the mattress. "Shat" of the entire structure will appear rather quickly, which means that it will have to be repaired, and even with the replacement of individual parts.

The “tongue-and-groove” connection with gluing these places is a more correct solution. Typical parameters of lugs and protrusions: depth (length) - 45 ± 5, width - 25 ± 5. If it is necessary to strengthen the structure, it is advisable to use a metal corner. Enough light, aluminum, "ten". These fasteners are installed from the inside and are completely invisible after the final assembly of the bed and laying the mattress.

Everything else is at the discretion of the master. For example, the front and back walls are made either the same or different in height. Legs - both square and round. If you “turn on” your imagination, then it’s easy to make such a bed from wood, which you can safely call “exclusive”. When a drawing is drawn up independently, and the assembly is carried out by hand, there is no hard standard. And the basic practical recommendations are given.

Good luck to you, home masters!

To ensure a comfortable and proper sleep, you need a high-quality and comfortable bed. Such products in the modern furniture market are presented in an extensive range. However, at times, the price for it is quite high. The design of most beds is quite simple, which will allow you to cope with its manufacture and do it yourself.

At the same time, you may not have any special skills and an expensive tool. The recommendations below and detailed instructions will explain how to make a bed of wood yourself, the drawings of which are simple and accessible.

Before making a double or single bed with your own hands, you need to decide on its dimensions, materials and fasteners.

In order for the manufactured furniture to be really comfortable and convenient, it is necessary to take into account the following parameters:

  • Product width.

    To determine it, you need to lie on your back, close your fingers and spread your elbows to the sides. The width should be measured from one elbow to the second, adding another 10-15 cm on each side. It is this indicator that is considered a comfort zone for a sleeping person. If you plan to make a double model, then the resulting figure should be doubled.

  • As for the length of the furniture, then another 30-40 cm should be added to the growth of its future user.
  • The average bed height should be between 50 and 60 cm.

    However, if he plans to sleep on it old man, then a higher model can be made. On the other hand, when creating a podium bed, the height must be reduced.

After determining the dimensions of the product, we calculate the load that will act on it.

So, another 15% is added to the weight of the future user of such furniture, so that it turns out to be even more durable and reliable. It is on such calculations that the choice of the thickness of chipboard sheets and beams depends.

With your own hands

When creating a sofa, we pay special attention to the choice of materials:

  • To create a frame, you can only use a wooden beam - there simply cannot be other options.

    If you have experience with welding machine, then metal can be used to create this piece of furniture. However, wood is much easier to process, and products from it look more presentable and aesthetically pleasing.

  • The sides and backs of the product can be made of chipboard or used for these purposes MDF.

    The second material is more suitable, since it has greater density and durability. In the process of assembling all furniture, you need to use glue: safe PVA is ideal for chipboard, but with laminated chipboard you will have to work using nitro-glue, which has a rather aggressive composition.

  • For the slatted bottom, experts recommend using solid plywood.

    You can grind the slats yourself with your own hands. But if, for example, you need to get a children's bed with an orthopedic effect, then it is better to buy a ready-made structure, which consists of several layers of wood and has a convex shape.

Choosing the right mount

Depending on the design of the bed, a different type of attachment may be required.

In most cases, the following options apply:

  1. Phosphated self-tapping screws with a rough surface. Such an attachment interacts well with the adhesive composition. The optimum diameter is 5 to 6 mm. The thickness of the screws directly depends on the material from which the furniture is made.
  2. Metal corners. They should have wide, rounded stiffeners.
  3. Traditional nails 60-70 mm long, which have a ring cut.

To make the product last as long as possible, it is recommended to use pins instead of dowels

Detailed instructions for creating furniture

To understand how to make a bed of wood yourself, the drawings of which can be taken from free access, and to cope with this, you need to do the work in the following steps:

If you wish, you can independently perform the loft bed, since the described actions are universal. It is only necessary to select suitable furniture drawings and materials for it.

Basically, people, regardless of whether they live with a soul mate or on their own, prefer double beds. Moreover, its design does not differ much from a single one. Beds have always been considered not a cheap pleasure, so making it yourself is much more economical and practical. Before starting work, you need to understand a few important points:

  • In order for the bed to meet your requirements, and its price was minimal, you need to limit yourself only on your own.
  • Furniture material should be easy to process and affordable.

    In other words, it is best to purchase ready-made material and cut it according to templates, rather than purchase an entire furniture workshop.

  • Special and inexpensive tools must be purchased. In the future, they will be needed for other purposes.

If you have never come across the manufacture of furniture, then for a double bed it is better to choose a podium made of laminated chipboard.

Even a beginner can assemble it on his own. There is no need to bother with the manufacture of moving parts and lifting materials, as this podium is designed with a special interior space.

Do not forget about the design of the bed, because it should fit harmoniously into the room and match other furniture. Decide exactly which bed you need, look at the photos on the Internet or in magazines.

The choice of material for a double bed

Furniture plays a major role in creating coziness and comfort in the apartment, therefore, it is necessary to treat it responsibly.

First of all, you need to purchase 30 mm thick MDF. It is necessary for cutting details with a texture for an expensive wood species. In addition to MDF, laminate flooring can also be purchased.

However, for installation, it is necessary to use nitro glue, and PVA glue is also suitable for MDF. That is why experts prefer MDF. It should be noted that it is extremely unprofitable to buy such sheets at the retail price.

If there is a furniture shop nearby, then it is better to purchase ready-made and edged parts there. For internal parts, you need to purchase a 20 mm thick wood board or plywood.

You also need to purchase lumber:

  • construction plywood 2000 * 1600 mm;
  • boards 1.5 m long and 20 * 100 mm in size;
  • timber with a length of 8 m and a section of 50 * 50;
  • boards 2 m long and 40 * 100 mm in size.

It doesn't matter what kind of wood the material is.

However, all boards, plywood and beams must be trimmed and planed.

Tools for assembling a double bed

Any man has his own set of tools, be it only a screwdriver and a tape measure. To assemble a double bed yourself, you must have the following tools:

  • the cloth;
  • threads;
  • needle;
  • dull knife;
  • screwdriver with a chuck more than 10 mm;
  • pencil;
  • for the manufacture of loops, a cutter with a diameter of 35 mm;
  • square with a ruler;
  • iron for gluing edges;
  • fine-grained sandpaper;
  • drills with different diameters;
  • construction tape;
  • a vacuum cleaner.

All the listed materials must be prepared in advance so as not to be distracted from the process and once again run to the store.

Double bed drawings

Below we offer you to get acquainted with the diagrams and drawings of popular types of double beds

Detailing the double bed yourself

As mentioned above, in order to independently make a double bed, you can buy ready-made furniture parts.

It is better to entrust the cutting of parts to craftsmen who have special equipment, and there is a free area. In addition, it is difficult to achieve right angles in the apartment when cutting.

The base for the mattress is made of plywood 16 mm thick and 1600 * 2000 mm in size. Other parts must be made with the specified dimensions and quantities:

  • top and base of the podium - 2 pieces measuring 2400 * 1650 mm;
  • headboard top - 1 piece measuring 1650 * 350 mm;
  • transverse stiffeners - 3 pieces with a size of 1650 * 350;
  • longitudinal stiffeners - 2 pieces measuring 1175 * 350 mm;
  • head restraints - 4 pieces, size 800 * 150 mm;
  • headboard racks - 3 pieces, size 350 * 350.

An accurate drawing must be made before ordering bed parts.

You can use ready-made drawings from the magazine.

Fasteners for the bed

To assemble the bed, use conventional fasteners.

How to make a simple double wooden bed yourself

You can buy them in almost any store that offers furniture fittings for sale. For self-made furniture needs to be prepared:

  1. Self-tapping screws 4 * 16.

    They are also sold at a furniture store. Better to purchase with a margin.

  2. Metal furniture corners measuring 25 * 25 mm with holes for self-tapping screws.
  3. Confirmates measuring 5 * 70 mm.

    It is also better to buy with a margin. They are used to assemble any kind of furniture.

If you have chosen a bed on the podium, then you do not need to buy legs.

Self-assembly of a double bed

The first step is to start processing the ends of the bed parts, and then just do the assembly. Processing is carried out using an edge.

Using an iron, it must be heated and applied with the adhesive side to the end. Do not heat the iron too much, you need to warm it up to 3/4 of the total heating of the iron. Carefully iron the edge. Quickly, so that it does not have time to cool down, you need to press it to the edges of the part with a dry cloth. In order not to damage the part, you need to cut off the excess sections of the edge, if any, with a blunt knife. Sand the edges of the edging with fine-grained emery paper.

Openings for confirmations should not exceed 60 mm.

They need to be drilled strictly following the rules. For example, to make a hole in a plane, you need to use a drill with a diameter of 8 mm. And for the hole in the end the best option there will be a drill with a diameter of 5 mm. In the drawings, the markings for the holes, but you can calculate it yourself.

Observing all the rules and adhering to the drawing, then any beginner can make furniture on their own.

Mattress

Typically, a homemade bed is much cheaper, with most of the waste going to the purchase of a mattress. You need to make accurate measurements so that you don't have to buy a new mattress or remodel your bed.

Making a bed with your own hands, there is an opportunity to make it as comfortable as possible, so you do not need to save on the mattress. It should be of high quality and convenient. You need to know how to properly fit the mattress on the sunbed. Like a bed, you can also make your own mattress. However, this is much more difficult than making a bed. You need to try to make it so that it is not worse than a store orthopedic one.

It is important to know that a self-made mattress should be used by people over 25 years old. For children, it is better to purchase in the store. Orthopedic mattresses are designed for a specific weight, age and complexion of a person. They are also useful for people who have back problems. This is why they are so expensive.

What kind of anchorage is needed for the mattress

If your new bed does not have bumpers installed, it is more likely that the mattress will slide off during sleep.

The average mattress weighs about 80 kg. And the surface of the bed is quite slippery. All this can lead to injuries and other sad consequences. All mattresses should be ventilated to breathe, especially orthopedic ones. And our handmade bed does not have a ventilated airspace under the base. In this case, it is necessary to attach the mattress to the base of the bed. But do not fasten it tightly so that you can freely change the mattress topper or replace it with a more comfortable mattress.

The best way to do this is with Velcro for clothes. One part can be sewn to the mattress, and the other can be stapled to the bed.

In order for the mattress to "breathe" it is necessary to drill holes for ventilation with a cutter. Thus, adhering to the drawings and all the established rules, it is not so difficult to make a double bed on your own.

Plastic boards (MDF)

Today the furniture market offers a very wide range, but, nevertheless, choosing the right choice is quite difficult.

In any case, it is about product quality. Generally, good furniture is expensive and doesn't look more durable. This is why more and more people are trying to create furniture themselves. This is especially true for beds. Determining a berth is not only a way to update the interior. Depending on the quality of the bed, this depends on complete sleep and morning mood. Thus, you can save a lot and not doubt the quality of this or that model. Moreover, the furniture design will be unique.

How to make a chipboard bed?

Creating a project for a future product is not a very difficult process.

It is an exciting activity that can easily develop into a hobby. The whole process will take a little over a week, as you will need technological breaks.

The bedding product market is full of varieties.

Materials vary in power, type, duration and price.

Do-it-yourself chipboard bed

Do-it-yourself bed

Particle board is an excellent material for making a bed with your own hands.

The assembly information is displayed in the design principle. First, choose a DSP laminate (1.6 cm thick and sheet metal from which we will make the lower part of the product).

Necessary tools for work:

  • simple pencil;
  • drilling confirmation;
  • measurement rule;
  • awl;
  • screwdriver and a sphere for self-tapping screws.

Preventing the bottom edge of the panel from moisture can be attached to the sides, corners of the plastic, fix them with screws.

After that, we placed special fasteners on the sides, which will later become the mattress.

The tables are also fastened with screws.

The frame structure means connecting all four side parts with clamps and, in any case, with corners. Under the mattress, in the shield, it is worth making a hole for your hands.

Thanks to this, we can simply place the mattress on the side.

Here's an easy way to make a chipboard bed.

How to make an MDF bed?

MDF beds

MDF is a wood material pressed from wood and sawdust into plates.

The decorative MDF layer is made by lamination or cladding.

This material is worth buying for several reasons:

  • long life, since the material does not cleanse and does not dry out;
  • MDF panels are very durable, MDF products are not easy to damage;
  • good water resistance - high quality MDF board can stay in water for a long time, then pull out and use without any consequences;
  • resistance to temperature changes.

Measuring, preparing and making bedding

Creating a bed according to the scheme

The average volume of a double bed is usually 200 x 160 cm.

Of course, you can make a large bed, but the master advises you to adhere to the standards.

So you must go back. The MDF profile will open with a transverse texture. Bottom edge of the sanding material.

The next stage is the main beam. It is 200 mm long, 50 x 50 thick. Attach the finished holder to the back of the product with glue and self-tapping screws.

Double bed with own hands

The bracket should be positioned in the middle at a height of 150 mm from the lower edge of the backrest.

The necessary parts are decorative posters attached to the dowels.

The legs are made using the same technology as the back. The only difference is that so-called eccentric ties are used to attach the legs to the wings. At the same time, there are couplings with which the mini bar is attached. This will prevent the retention elements from moving towards the "face" of the parts.

Prepare the kings.

We also need certain holes for assembly, including mini repairs. The kings are glued to the back of the bed and secured with screws. The beam is set at a height of 70 mm.

Then we assemble the center layer of the bed, which is attached to the holders that lie on the back. Install the bracket to install the bracket with self-tapping screws. The base of the required dimensions for the mattress must be made of MDF board. Better to do it from two poles - it's easier to install.

Basic elements are usually slightly smaller than the size of the frame itself.

Finally, you need to put the mattress down and your bed is ready.

How to make a mattress yourself?

Types of double beds

Orthopedic mattresses deserve popularity. They help a person to have a good rest and have fun in the morning.

If desired, the mattress can be made by hand. The filler can be used as a two-layer quick foam, under no circumstances use latex and single-layer foam. Otherwise, the mattress will start to disintegrate in different places.

The package is made of two layers. Layers with a size of 125 mm should be made of materials with a given density: below - about 35 kg / m³, and the top - at least 45 kg / m³.

Foam, take any square. In this situation, we are planning to build a bed 2000x1600 mm.

The prepared layers of the bag are covered with a mattress of the appropriate size.

In this article, we have seen ways to create a chipboard on our own. We hope that our recommendations will be useful and interesting.

Double wooden bed

Making a mattress

Comfortable sleep and well-being depend on it. The price for good mattresses is around $ 200. Of course, you can make this necessary accessory yourself. Single layer foam or latex will not work. Even with a thickness of 200 mm, it will soon begin to slip in certain places.

The padding must be at least two-layer. Layers with a thickness of 125 mm are cut from material of varying degrees of density: the lower one is about 35 kg / m3, the upper one is at least 45 / m3.

If you could not buy such blanks, you can lower the density of the lower layer in an artisanal way - burn several symmetrical holes in it.

This is done with a hot tin can with sharp edges. Choose any area of foam rubber.

Do-it-yourself double bed 2.0 x 1.6 meters

For our bed, let's take, for example, 2000x1500 mm. The finished padding layers are covered with a mattress topper made to size.

Tools and materials

Now that the mattress is ready, you can start calculating the wooden parts.

For our bed, we need two sidewalls, a front and rear backrest, a support beam, slats and two inner legs. With this in mind, we need the following blanks:

  • Board 2500х300х20 mm - 2 pcs.

    (side walls)

  • Board 2000x300x20 mm - 3 pcs. (front and back walls + headboard)
  • Beam 2000x40x40 mm - 5 pcs. (4 carriers + 1 for support and legs)
  • Rail 1500x40x20 mm - 27 pcs. (25 per slat + 2 per headboard fixing)
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Joiner's glue.
  • Stain and varnish.

Before making a wooden bed yourself, you need to prepare the appropriate tools.

Missing ones to buy together with materials in a hardware store. We get the following set:

  • Planer and sandpaper (to clean up the flaws of the joiners),
  • Roulette,
  • Square and metal rulers,
  • Cutter,
  • Hacksaw,
  • Screwdriver with bits 8 and 10,
  • Drill,
  • Pencil,
  • Electric jigsaw.

Having prepared the materials and tools, we begin to mark the lumber. When sawing, measure and match the sides of the frame again so that the bed does not come out crooked.

We make a bed of wood with our own hands

Taking into account the internal size of the frame, which should ideally fit the size of the mattress, mark and cut the boards.

By the way, if this is your first attempt at making wooden beds, here are some helpful tips:

  • Make a drawing of the bed, calculating and indicating the exact dimensions of the parts. List all parts and materials for them.
  • Mark the cutting lines with a cutter along a ruler.
  • In order for parts of one type to come out the same, you first need to cut one, then use it as a template.
  • All surfaces of the cuts must be cleaned with sandpaper.

It is better to take glued blanks - their geometry is pre-determined.

So, the front and rear walls should be 1500 mm each, the side walls are 2040 mm each.

The walls of our future wooden bed

We divide the front wall into 3 even parts along the length. We make markings in the divisions. We repeat the same for the back wall.

Having figured out how to make a bed of wood and what height it should be, we determined the depth of the mattress to be 50 mm.

We add 20 mm (thickness of the slatted coating) + 40 mm (thickness of the supporting longitudinal beams) = 110 mm. We measure 110 mm from the top of the workpiece and screw the support blocks in the places of the marks.

Front and rear wall with attached support bars

On the side walls we measure 70 mm from the top (the depth of the mattress + the thickness of the slatted cover), we beat off the line with a marked cord.

Along the entire length, we screw a support bar 1920 mm long, retreating from the edges by 60 mm. At the same time, self-tapping screws are screwed in from the inside. It is necessary to measure in advance the thickness of the timber and the board and correlate them with the length of the screws so as not to spoil the front side of the future bed.

You also need to screw vertical sections of the timber to the sidewalls, strictly stepping back from the edges of 20 mm.

Side wall with support bar

An additional board (for the headboard) is attached to the front wall.

Before this, the ends must be coated with wood glue and ideally level the workpiece. From the outside, the headboard is reinforced with three slats glued to the same glue and screwed onto self-tapping screws. The upper corners of the workpiece can be rounded off in advance or you can choose a more intricate shape - for which there is enough imagination. This is where the jigsaw comes in handy. At this stage, we are already starting to think about how to make a wooden bed not only even and strong, but also beautiful.

After that, you can assemble the frame by twisting the blanks. Having assembled the frame, we put two or three supporting beams on the support beams of the front and rear walls. We fasten them to the support bars with self-tapping screws at an angle of 45 degrees. If there is not enough timber, you can pull two slats together.

Now, on the supporting structure, stepping back 20 mm from the front or rear wall, we lay the slats (25 pieces) with a step of 40 mm and fasten them.

For reliability, two legs can be screwed to the supporting beams along the height of the side walls. We put the mattress on the frame. The height of the entire structure is 50 cm.

Slatted cover and additional feet

As a result, you can see that this sturdy, classic design will blend in well with your bedroom decor.
