Crafts from pipes: waste-free production and contribution to the preservation of the environment

Once my husband closed himself in the workshop, and two hours later he came out with this design from the picture, proudly called the frame of the chair. As it turned out, the idea of creating it was born to him in the process of designing a street and garden water supply system, but it turned out that he did not “invent the wheel”, since our craftsmen mastered PVC pipe crafts a long time ago. As evidenced by thousands of photos on the network.

Nevertheless, this topic is very interesting, if only because it opens up unlimited scope for imagination and allows you to use even the most waste plastic pipes instead of throwing them in a landfill or burning them with garbage, poisoning the air.

A few words about profitability

The husband bought pipes, corners and couplings for this “throne” on purpose. For the manufacture of the back and seat, you will still need planks and clips for fastening (they are planned to be made removable). The price of all materials, including stain for wood impregnation, was about 1,500 rubles.

When we went to Castorama the next day, we found garden chairs there at a comparable and even lower cost. Conclusion: the manufacture of plastic furniture, taking into account the time spent on this and the cost of raw materials, cannot be called a profitable business.

From the point of view of economy, it makes sense only if you use the pipes left over from the plumbing device, which are still going to be discarded. Although I suspect that some things can be much cheaper than store-bought.

For example, a greenhouse frame or a high chair for feeding. But here you have to sacrifice functionality or aesthetics: it is unlikely that a white plastic structure with clearly visible fittings will fit into the stylish interior of an apartment. In addition, unlike factory products, it cannot be transformed into a cradle or swing.

If you yourself or your friends at work are connected with the laying and installation of water pipes and or you have the opportunity to “extract” pipe trimmings for free, then in this case you should try to do crafts from plastic pipes with your own hands.

Of course, I am writing all this for those who want to save money on buying the right things. Those who do not care about the cost of the finished product, but are only interested in the creative and inventive component of the process, can omit this information.
And one more nuance. In addition to the actual raw materials for crafts, tools and equipment are required for their assembly which also need to be purchased.

  • For welding polypropylene pipes, a special soldering iron is required, which for some reason is called an “iron” by some plumbers;

  • Metal crafts from a profile pipe cannot be made without a welding machine, electrodes and a grinder;
  • Only PVC pipes are connected with glue and do not require the purchase of expensive equipment. Yes, and glue in our case, you can not use. This is the most convenient material for the manufacture of collapsible structures, but the cost of the pipes themselves is quite high: they are at least 3-4 times more expensive than pipes made of polypropylene.

What can be made from pipes

Plastic pipes do not rot, do not corrode, do not require painting, although it is quite possible to change the color of the product if desired. They are quite durable, smooth, easy to clean, not afraid of water. In a word, the ideal material for making ... anything.

Do not lag behind them and metal round and profiled pipes. You fiddle with them a little more (you need corrosion protection, experience with welding), but things turn out to be more durable and reliable.

I will give a few examples.

Furniture

In addition to the chairs already mentioned, benches, deck chairs, tables, shelving and even beds can be made from pipes. And not only frames for them, but also full-fledged products.

Such furniture will perfectly fit into interiors decorated in modern high-tech or loft styles, where maximum simplicity and even some roughness of designs are required. And for summer cottages and gardens, this is just a godsend.

Gardening and household crafts

If in a city apartment, pipe products often look alien, then in the courtyard of a country house they are the place. See how many necessary and useful things people do.

  • Greenhouses and greenhouses. The design can be any, both rectangular with a pitched roof and arched - plastic pipes bend perfectly in long sections. Unlike wood, they are not afraid of moisture and fungus, they are not harmed by insects.

  • Vertical beds. They can be placed both in the greenhouse itself, and in the open air, and on the terrace of a country house. This method of growing plants saves space if the site is small, and decorates the territory.

  • Pergolas and awnings. As well as playhouses for children, aviaries for dogs or poultry and other light yard buildings.

  • Fencing. From short pipe cuts, you can make borders for flower beds. And the long ones will serve to create a fence around the site, gates and gates. Agree, such a fence looks very interesting, and it will last a long time.

  • Garden and children's swings. In their manufacture, it is necessary to take into account the expected load and choose pipes with a diameter of at least 32 mm.

  • Pergolas, arches, supports for climbing plants. Made of wood, they will rot over time, and the metal gets very hot in the sun, burning the plants. Plastic is the ideal material for these purposes.

This is not a complete list of what can be made useful for giving from plastic or thin-walled metal pipes. It can include garden carts, various sprinklers, clothes dryers, curtain rods, stairs, ladders, etc.

How to use short cuts

Even completely junk pipe sections a few centimeters long can go into action. The main thing is to turn on the fantasy. For example, if you cut them 1-2 cm thick and glue them together, you can get an excellent frame for a mirror, wall clock or photographs.

Men will love the following idea, which allows you to keep your garage or workshop in order:

And in the kitchen, according to the same principle, you can build a mini-bar.

Conclusion

It takes a lot of time to describe all the creative ideas that have already been implemented by people who are not deprived of imagination and a creative streak. Looking at these photos and videos in this article, my own hands are itching to put into action what is left of the newly assembled garden watering system.

How do you feel about this idea? Let's think together what else is necessary and interesting that can be glued, soldered and welded from pipes instead of just throwing them in the trash. I look forward to your comments.
