DIY night light: ideas, recommendations, master classes, photographs. DIY night light: tips and ideas on how to make simple and laconic models How to make a night light from wood with LEDs

A night light is not just a source of lighting, but also an important decorative element. During the day it may be practically unnoticeable, but at night, when all other lighting devices go out, it is the night light that comes to the fore. And if it’s not just a light bulb under a lampshade, but something more inventive, then the night room takes on a special solemn atmosphere. With a little effort, you can make a spectacular and stylish night light with your own hands. Its shape and features will be limited only by the imagination of the creator.

Why is it needed?

To shine at night is the most obvious answer to this question. But far from the only one! A good night light performs a number of useful functions:

  • creates a pleasant and unusual atmosphere before bedtime;
  • saves electricity - a light bulb in a night light consumes several times less electricity than a chandelier;
  • decorates the interior of the room;
  • eliminates the need to turn on the main light and wake up household members if you need to get up in the middle of the night;
  • allows you to install a light bulb of any color and even create shaped lighting.

In addition, a night light in a child’s bedroom is a reliable means of combating the fear of the dark. If the lampshade is decorated with patterns and drawings, then the light from such a night light will have a beneficial effect on the child’s imagination. Any psychologist will confirm that the visual effects that a child observes are an important and useful element.

Ideas

There are many great ideas for homemade night lights. They differ in the degree of complexity of their manufacture, but most of them can be handled by anyone.

Wall

You can cut out the name of the person in whose room the night light will be placed

There are countless options for making a wall night light. It can have any shape and consist of any materials. Here is one of the simple and at the same time impressive-looking options. To create it you will need some boards, a sheet of acrylic and an LED strip of any color:

  1. Take 2 boards of the same size. The thickness should be small - this will make it easier to work with them. Treat the material with sandpaper or any other method to give it a presentable appearance.
  2. Cut out a rectangle from acrylic the same size as the planks.
  3. Take one of the boards and draw a pattern or inscription on it.
  4. Cut out the pattern or inscription so that it becomes end-to-end. If you don’t have a CNC machine at hand, this can be done with a regular drill or jigsaw. Light from the night light will pass through these holes.
  5. Make 4 corner holes for bolts in each of the boards and in the acrylic sheet. Also create a hole in the empty board for the cord from the LED strip.
  6. Cut a groove on the acrylic sheet slightly wider than the LED strip. The strip should be at the bottom of the workpiece and run lengthwise. Place the tape in the groove.
  7. Assemble the night light using bolts.

The lighting fixture can be screwed to the wall with the same bolts with which it was assembled, or it can be glued or carefully hung on a nail.

Made from plexiglass

Plexiglas is made from acrylic resin and is widely known under the names plexiglass, acryplast, acrylite

Organic glass and acrylic are practically the same thing. Therefore, the key principle for making a night light from plexiglass is the same as in the previous version. The only difference is that plexiglass can not be hung on the wall, but, for example, placed on a table or even on the floor in the corner of the room.

One of the simple options for creating such a night light:

  1. Make 3 rectangular blanks from plexiglass. The size can be arbitrary, but each piece should be slightly longer than the previous one.
  2. Draw any pattern you like on paper. Place paper under the blanks and trace the pattern onto the glass with a scalpel or other tool. It is best if there is a protective film on the plexiglass. Remove it after finishing work.
  3. Cut out a figure of the desired shape from a thick wooden board - it will be a stand. Make another figure of the same shape.
  4. In one of the figures, make slots for acrylic blanks (you can use a regular drill), and in the other, make a recess for the LED strip.
  5. Place the tape in the recess and glue the wooden shapes together. Then insert the plexiglass blanks into the slots. The spectacular night light is ready!

In order for the night light to shine well, the recess for the LED strip must “cover” all 3 slots.

Paper

Do-it-yourself night light made of paper is one of the less expensive ways to make it

Paper is a very pliable and flexible material to process. You can make anything out of it. Here is just one of the many examples of paper night lights:

  1. Take a sheet of thick multi-colored paper and draw any image or pattern on it.
  2. Using an awl, punch out this image along the outline. You can also make continuous slits with a blade.
  3. Roll a piece of paper into a tube so that the outline of the image is inside. Glue the resulting cylinder together.
  4. Place a small flashlight or candle on the table, covered with an inverted glass. Hide the light source under a paper cylinder.

Night light garland

There are many options for such night lights, because... you can choose a garland of any color and shape

A garland night light is one of the simplest ideas. Girls often make such night lights during school craft lessons. To make a lamp you need to do the following:

  1. Take a glass container. It can be a jar, vase or bottle of any shape.
  2. Place a garland inside the container. It is better to use LED as it does not heat up and is therefore safe for glass.
  3. Pass the cord from the garland through the hole in the container and place the resulting night light with the hole down. To make it stand better, you can cut a small notch in the edge of the hole for the cord.

Use containers with thick frosted glass. Then the wires of the garland will not be visible - only bright multi-colored light bulbs.

With starry sky effect

You can try to make the sky realistic, repeating the contours of real constellations, or you can depict schematic constellations that are not at all similar to the real ones

This is one of the most popular ideas of all time. The romantic lighting effect leaves no one indifferent, and the area for experimentation when creating is simply huge! In order to make such a lighting device, you need:

  • a regular glass jar (or an unusual one if you want a more beautiful shade) with a lid;
  • thick foil (plain kitchen foil will do);
  • small flashlight (to fit in a jar);
  • marker or felt-tip pen;
  • awl and scissors;
  • hard surface - a board, tray or the like.

How to make a night light like this:

  1. Using a marker, draw stars on the foil.
  2. Place the foil on a hard surface and pierce the stars with an awl. If desired, the resulting holes can be carefully modified with scissors, giving them a pentagonal shape.
  3. Cut the sheet of foil so that its height is equal to the height of the jar. Then roll it into a tube and place it inside the jar, smoothing it along the walls. The result should be a glass container, tightly lined with foil on the inside.
  4. Insert the switched-on flashlight into the jar and turn the structure upside down.

To give the night light a “heavenly” color, you can use a decorative jar from a home improvement store, and for lighting - a garland or light bulb with dark blue glass.

With infinity effect

Preparing materials is the main difficulty in creating such a night light

To make an impressive night light you will need:

  • acrylic mirror (regular or double-sided - it doesn’t matter);
  • translucent glass;
  • aluminum strip;
  • LED Strip Light;
  • any wooden block.

The process of making a night light is quite simple:

  1. Make grooves in the block into which you can insert a mirror and glass. Cuts of the required width can be easily made with a jigsaw or a regular drill, selecting the drill according to the size.
  2. Fold the aluminum strip into a rectangle and secure it with bolts to the block between the cuts, as shown in the photo.
  3. Wrap the aluminum with LED strip. You can attach it with glue or wire.
  4. Insert the mirror and glass into the grooves. The night light is ready! Place it on the table with the glass facing forward.

The moon night light will become an original decorative element in any room.

To make a real glowing moon for your bedroom, you need the following materials:

  • round balloon;
  • roll of paper towels;
  • glue (regular PVA is best);
  • sponge with large pores;
  • paint (preferably acrylic).

Match the paint to the color of the moon (pale yellow or ivory) for maximum effect. You can also mix white paint with ocher to get the desired shade.

Making such a night light is quite simple, although it requires a lot of free time:

  1. Trace the balloon knot with a marker. You should get a circle with a diameter of about 6–7 cm. This area does not need to be used in the future; it will be removed.
  2. Dip a round balloon into a container of glue. If there is not enough glue, the ball can be painted with a brush.
  3. Cover the ball with paper towels. Wait until the glue hardens. Next, apply another layer with a brush and repeat the procedure. There must be at least 3 layers of towels so that the ball comes out hard and dense.
  4. After complete drying, paint the ball with acrylic paint.
  5. Take a large-pored sponge, dip it in the same paint and carefully “stamp” the ball on all sides. For realism, you can “copy” an image of the real Moon. It is this stage that is important for creating the lunar surface with craters and seas.
  6. Wait for the ball to dry. Then cut a hole along the outline made with a marker and remove the balloon with tweezers.
  7. Place a light bulb in a socket, a white garland inside, or use the moon as a lampshade for a floor lamp.

Cloud

A cloud-shaped night light is one of the simplest and most cost-effective options for a homemade night light.

To make a night light in the shape of a thundercloud, you will need a round or oval lampshade, cotton wool, an LED lamp (or several multi-colored light bulbs) and glue. You also need to prepare a thick thread to hang the product from the ceiling. The lampshade can be replaced with a wire frame, giving it a round or oval shape. Such a frame will need to be covered with a thin translucent fabric.

The process of making a night light is as follows:

  1. Make a hole in the lampshade and insert a light bulb into it. Pass a thick thread through it. If the light bulb you are using is powered by electricity, the lamp can be hung on a cable.
  2. Cover the lampshade with cotton wool. You need very little glue - a small drop for each piece of cotton wool. Try to create a cloud shape using both small and large pieces of cotton wool.
  3. The hole in the lampshade can also be sealed with cotton wool so that it is not visible.
  4. Hang the resulting lamp from the ceiling. During the day it will look like an ordinary summer cloud, and at night it will “rage like a thunderstorm.”

Rose

To make such a night light, you can choose any color of paper that matches the interior

Making a beautiful glowing rose is quite difficult, but the result justifies the effort and time spent. To make this night light you need cardboard, corrugated paper, acrylic paint (pink, burgundy or yellow - depending on the chosen color of the rose), glue stick, and wire.

And here is the manufacturing process itself:

  1. Cut out a template in the shape of a rose petal from cardboard. It is important to give it realism, to make it look like a real petal - this way the lamp will look more beautiful.
  2. Cut petals from corrugated paper according to the shape of the template.
  3. Use scissors to round the ends of the petals until it looks similar to the photo. Applying scissors to the edges of the petals, iron the paper, and after several such ironings it will become round.
  4. Glue the petals in the shape of a pink bud, place an LED inside to match the color of the paper. You can, however, experiment with different shades.
  5. You can also make a stem, as in the photo, and glue a green LED to each leaf. But a rose without a stem will look good as a table night light.

Such a night light can be either small, fitting on a table, or occupy a distance from floor to ceiling

Wooden nightlights are very popular because working with wood is much easier than working with glass or metal. You can create the most bizarre shapes from it. And varnished wood looks amazing and successfully complements any interior.

Materials that may be needed to make a wooden night light:

  • wooden boards, bars or logs (depending on the selected lamp model);
  • paint or varnish;
  • a light bulb or LED strip (it is preferable to use a strip, since it does not heat up and is therefore safe for wood);
  • glue, nails or bolts (depending on the chosen fastening method);
  • sandpaper.

Tools needed to make a night light:

  • small saw or jigsaw;
  • drill;
  • brush for applying glue;
  • screwdriver;
  • a machine for processing wood (needed when making complex models of lamps).

Step-by-step instruction

The process for creating all wooden night lights is quite similar. Let's look at it using one very beautiful example:

  1. Take a flat log about 0.5 m long and about 15 cm in diameter. The exact dimensions do not matter - the main thing is that it is not too large.
  2. Saw the log into washers, make 2 of them slightly thicker than the others - they will be located at the top and bottom.
  3. Drill a hole in the very center of each washer. The holes on two thick washers should be blind, and on all the others - through. If you have a drilling machine, you can make wide openings; if not, narrower ones, slightly widened with a chisel or jigsaw.
  4. Sand the holes with sandpaper to remove any splinters. Then lubricate them from the inside with glue: this will allow the future night light to maintain its shape and not “dry out”.
  5. Coat the wooden washers with varnish and let dry thoroughly.
  6. Thread the washers evenly onto the strip or metal rod across the width of the hole. The rod can be pre-wrapped with LED strip, or you can install individual LEDs after the structure has been assembled.
  7. Try to distribute the lighting so that each gap between the washers glows evenly.

LED

If you are making a night light for a children's room, you can use your favorite cartoon or book character

An LED night light is the best option for handmade items. After all, diode strips and light bulbs never heat up even during continuous operation, and therefore they are safe for wood, paper and all other materials.

Required materials and tools

When making LED night lights, you most often need:

  • diode lighting element (diode strip or light bulbs);
  • base for a night light (lampshade, frame made of wire or improvised means, wooden stand, etc.);
  • glue;
  • scissors, awl or other tools.

Step-by-step instruction

The model of the LED night light can be absolutely any - whatever the author's imagination is enough for. Let's look at the process of making one of the simple lamps that requires very little time and effort:

  1. Take a sheet of plywood and draw a picture of a cat on it. Simply print and trace the template. You can draw any other animal or anything at all - it depends only on your imagination.
  2. Carefully cut out the image with a jigsaw.
  3. If you are not satisfied with the appearance of the plywood, coat it with varnish or cover it with the same wallpaper as is used in the room. Then the silhouette of the cat will merge with the wall, which will add spectacularity to the night light.
  4. Glue the LED strip to the back of the figure. Place it closer to the center - then the light will be soft and uniform.
  5. The night light should not fit tightly to the wall. It should be hung on any fasteners that you have. To do this, glue a small wooden block to the back side of the plywood figure, and fix this block on the fastener.

From improvised means

In order to make a night light with your own hands, just dig around in your pantry or closet

To make a nice lamp, you don’t have to go to the store for materials or look for suitable wooden blocks at the dacha. There are many ways to make night lights from any available materials.

What might be useful?

To create you will need:

  • any materials you found around your home (in our case, a wine bottle);
  • old New Year's garland;
  • drill;
  • clay (if it is not there, sand or earth from a flowerpot);
  • multi-colored threads;
  • glue.

Step-by-step instruction

Making such a night light is very simple:

  1. Remove the label from the bottle. To remove it easily and without residue, place the bottle in a container of warm water for a few minutes. After this, the paper will come off on its own.
  2. Drill a hole at the bottom of the bottle, at a distance of 1–2 cm from the bottom. To prevent the glass from overheating and breaking, stick a little damp clay, sand or earth on the desired area of the bottle. Drill a little at a time, pouring water into the hole from time to time.
  3. Once the hole is ready, wash the bottle and wait until it is completely dry.
  4. Push the New Year's garland inside the container, and pass the cord to connect to the outlet through the drilled hole. You'll have to tinker here, given the narrow neck of the bottle, so be patient.
  5. If you want to decorate the bottle with something, wrap it with multi-colored threads soaked in glue. The quantity and density do not matter - you can make a small pattern, or you can cover the entire bottle. The main thing is to leave holes through which light will flow out. The night light is ready!

Creating a handmade night light is a fun and easy process. It is not at all necessary to know how to handle wood or buy any special materials to make a beautiful and stylish night light. Design ideas are limited only by the author's imagination.

The key goal of creating a night light with your own hands is not saving money. Lighting devices are not that expensive, and anyone can afford to buy a model to suit their taste. The main beauty of handmade is to feel like a real creator and create a very real reminder of the creative process. When looking at a “home-made” night light, a person will definitely experience more pleasant emotions than in the case of a night light from a store.

Today you can purchase lighting fixtures for a wide variety of purposes for your home. Perhaps the most relevant lamp for a children's room is a night light.

Many children are afraid to sleep without light, and such lighting devices solve this problem very well, since they provide little light, but at the same time it is quite enough for the child. At the same time, they consume a minimum of electricity. The popularity of hand-made products today is explained by the fact that many things needed in everyday life can be made independently at home. This article will tell you how to make a night light with your own hands from materials available in the house.

Theme for design

Recently, the theme of the starry sky has become a very popular theme for night lights. At home, you can create an imitation of the starry sky in several ways. Making a night light with your own hands will be very profitable, because buying such products is quite expensive.
Thanks to this you will receive the following positive aspects:

  • save money;
  • create something with your own hands;
  • please your child with a beautiful lamp;
  • get creative.

Sky in the stars

In addition, such a lighting device can be installed not only in the children's room, but also in the bedroom. If in the first case it will create twilight, then in the bedroom it will create a romantic mood.

Starry sky

Since the starry sky is the most popular today, we will consider several options for creating a night light of this type with your own hands.
Method No. 1. Lamp from a can.
Note! The advantage of this type of lamp is that it does not need to be connected to the mains.
To make such a night light with your own hands, you will need materials that can be easily found around the house. The list of required materials includes:

  • glass jar with a lid;
  • thick foil;
  • tray. It can be replaced with any surface that does not scratch;
  • flashlight.

The tools you will need are:

  • scissors;
  • awl.

The basis of such a night light will be a small flashlight powered by little finger batteries. To make a lamp, we perform the following manipulations:

  • on a piece of foil we draw a schematic starry sky;
  • put the sheet on a tray and make holes in it;

Note! The height of the sheet must correspond to the height of the jar.

  • roll the foil into a tube and insert it into the jar;
  • Place the switched-on flashlight on the bottom of the jar and close the lamp with a lid.

The result of the work

Method number 2. Lamp made from a tin can.
Such a lamp can be made even in the field. The set of materials for this is as follows:

  • any tin can;
  • nail/awl;
  • dye. We choose the color according to our own taste;
  • autonomous light bulb/flashlight.

The process of creating a night light is as follows:

  • clean and wash the jar from any remaining contents;
  • Make holes in the jar with a nail or awl. We make holes in a chaotic order or according to a chosen pattern;
  • paint the jar;
  • We place the jar with the bottom up, and put a self-contained light bulb or flashlight inside.

As you can see, you can make even such a complex version of a lamp as a starry sky with your own hands at home. Both methods will allow you to create a beautiful projection of the starry sky on the ceiling and walls in the children's room.
But besides this, there are other types of lighting devices that can play the role of a night light. You can also make them yourself at home.

LEDs in a bottle

In addition to the above-described lighting models, a night light can be made from an ordinary can and LEDs. In this case, the creation process will be as simple as in the first two cases.
To assemble such a lamp you will need:

  • Glass bottle. An excellent solution would be to use a bottle of a non-standard original shape;
  • insulating tape;
  • network cable with plug;
  • LED garland for decorating the Christmas tree.

In addition, you need a very small set of tools:

  • wire cutters;
  • drill and drill bits for drilling glass or ceramics.

To create a lamp from a bottle, follow these instructions:

    ⦁ wash the bottle inside and out;

Note! The bottle must be dry!

  • at the bottom of the bottle, almost at the very bottom, drill a hole for the wire. We do this very carefully so as not to damage the bottle;

Bottle drilling

  • after that, we insert the wire into the drilled hole and take it out through the neck;
  • We strip the ends of the wire and make a knot at a distance of 2-3 cm from its edge. This is done to prevent the cable from being pulled out of the bottle;
  • cut off the plug from the garland and strip the ends of the wire;
  • insulate the wires using electrical tape;
  • Place the resulting garland in a bottle. At the same time, the neck itself remains open.

Ready-made device

Here it is worth clarifying that during operation, such a night light will accumulate the products of the LED garland at the bottom of the bottle. In addition, over time, the efficiency of the lamp will also decrease slightly. To minimize this effect, tie black strings to the garland before placing it in the bottle. Then “hang” a garland on them inside the bottle.

Night light and lace

A children's night light for a girl can be made using lace as a decorative element. This way you can give the glow of the lamp additional charm and charm.
In this case, to make the device you will need:

  • some linen with lace;
  • threads;
  • plastic or glass jar;
  • battery powered flashlight.

The only tools you will need are scissors and a needle.
The assembly instructions for such a lamp contain the following steps:

  • wash and clean the jar of dirt and labels;
  • wrap it with lace;

Note! The lace should not protrude from the edges of the jar or overlap. This will worsen the light performance of the device. If the edges do come out, carefully trim them with scissors.

  • sew the edges of the lace;
  • Place the switched-on flashlight on the bottom of the jar and close the lid.

You can make such a lamp very quickly. In reality, you will spend about 10 minutes on it. This night light will fit perfectly into the interior of a little princess.

Lamp with butterflies

This night light also belongs to the “romantic” category, and therefore is more suitable for a girl’s room. To make it, you need to have on hand:

  • wire (about 50 cm);
  • white paper (2 sheets);
  • glass/plastic jar;
  • flashlight;
  • butterfly stencils.

A lamp with butterflies is made as follows:

  • Using stencils, cut out several butterflies from white paper. We will need approximately 6-7 pieces;
  • We roll the second sheet of paper into a tube (the jar should fit into it relatively freely) and beautifully decorate its edges. You can use figure cutting;
  • Glue butterflies (4-5 pieces) to the resulting tube. We place them in a chaotic order;

Note! Don't forget to leave two butterflies for later.

  • then we wrap the prepared jar with wire. You should get semicircles;
  • we tie the remaining two butterflies on the bends of the wire;
  • Inside the tube obtained earlier we place a jar, at the bottom of which there is a switched-on flashlight.

The resulting lamp will be very beautiful and will be an excellent addition to any nursery interior for a girl.

Fatin to the studio!

Another way to make a night light is to use tulle. Here you will need a round lampshade, tulle, glue and a flashlight.

Tulle ball

The manufacture of the device occurs as follows:

  • cut tulle into circles;
  • We take tulle and fold it in the form of a rose on the lampshade. Then we fix them with glue. You only need to glue the tulle rose in the middle;
  • in this way we decorate the entire ball;
  • We place a flashlight inside. It can be replaced with a Christmas tree garland.

As a result, we will get a very beautiful and delicate night light.
Now you know that making a night light with your own hands at home is an easy, fun, interesting and creative activity. In just 5-10 minutes you will receive a beautiful lamp that your child will really like and will fit perfectly into the interior of the nursery, or any other room.

Illumination of buildings with ground lamps - review of the most popular, installation

Modern night lights are convenient and ergonomic lighting sources. They complement the interior of any room well and can become a real decorative element. In a children's room, a night light will help the baby feel safe, and a hand-made lamp can also be presented as a handmade souvenir.

Benefits of a night light

The advantages of a homemade lamp can be considered the following points:

  • creating a special pleasant atmosphere on the eve of sleep;
  • the ability to navigate in the dark without waking up family members with the main light;
  • reducing children's fear of the dark;
  • energy savings;
  • adding decorative elements to the overall interior;
  • additional visual effects to develop children's imagination.

Night light starry sky"

One of the most current and romantic night light models, to one degree or another, imitates an endless cluster of constellations in the night sky. You can make such a light source yourself from scrap materials. It does not need to be connected to the network, because a regular flashlight with little batteries is enough.

To create such a night light, you need a glass jar with a lid of any size, thick foil, scissors, an awl, a small flashlight and any surface that is not afraid of damage, for example, a tray.

  1. Draw a star map on the foil. You can arrange celestial objects schematically or following the real arrangement of stars. It all depends on your desires and level of effort. If you are making a similar night light for a child, you can limit yourself to the image of the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor.
  2. Place the sheet on a flat surface and use an awl to make holes. These will be the luminous stars.
  3. Trim the foil so that its height matches the height of the jar. Roll the sheet into a tube and insert it into a glass container.
  4. Place a flashlight at the bottom of the jar and turn it on. The walls and ceiling will immediately be illuminated by the beautiful glow of the night light.

There is another option to make a children's night light that imitates the night sky. It can be made from an ordinary tin can. Such a container should be cleaned, the label removed, painted in any pleasant color and several holes made with an awl. Inside the jar you need to put a flashlight, a garland or a lit candle. It is advisable to cover the edges of the jar with a plastic lid so that none of the family members are injured.

This version of the lamp can be an ideal romantic gift or bedroom decoration. To make a night light with your own hands, as a decorative element and a light source, you need to purchase a lace fabric. It can have different colors and patterns, depending on your preferences. You will also need a dry and clean jar, scissors with thread, and a flashlight with batteries.

  1. Wrap the container with lace so that it does not protrude beyond the edges and does not overlap the edges. Remove excess parts.
  2. Sew the edges of the lace to create a sleeve that matches the diameter of the jar. You can work on a sewing machine or by hand.
  3. Place the sleeve on the jar, place the flashlight inside and screw on the lid.

Using available materials, it is quite possible to build a large homemade lamp that can decorate not only a nursery or bedroom, but the entire room. To create such a miracle, you will need an original tin or plastic tea can. You also need scrapbooking paper, stationery cardboard, a paper knife, acrylic paints, glue, sandpaper, and masking tape. And since in this case we are making not just a night light, but a lamp, we need to prepare a light bulb socket, an incandescent light bulb itself, a power cord and a switch.

  1. Cut out a sheet of scrap paper that can be used to completely wrap the jar. Please note that the bottom of the tea bag will be the top of the lamp.
  2. Remove the lid from the jar, lean it against a piece of paper, trace it with a pencil and cut it out.
  3. Connect the cut out template to the wrapped jar using masking tape. Trace a circle with a pencil.
  4. Using your markings, cut out the window. Sand the edges with sandpaper.
  5. Re-trace the oval template onto the cardstock. Draw stripes inside it and cut out some of them.
  6. Glue the cardboard to the jar on the inside.
  7. You can decorate the outside of the jar as you wish, using paper, cardboard, acrylic threads, lace, etc.
  8. At the back of the lamp, cut a circle for the power cord. You need to make a hole in the lid for the cartridge.
  9. Assemble a socket with a light bulb, a switch and an electrical plug into a circuit.
  10. Place the socket in the jar, screw in the light bulb.
  11. Assemble the lamp and check its operation by plugging it into an outlet.

Night light for a child

When creating a lamp for a children's room at home, the most important thing is to use your imagination as much as possible. In addition, you can involve your baby in creating a night light and combine business with pleasure.

Prepare a glass ball or spherical shade for the lamp. You will also need a large amount of tulle or tulle, glue and several lanterns, or better yet, a garland for the Christmas tree.

  1. Cut out a large number of small circles from the fabric.
  2. Take a dry and clean lampshade, gather circles of tulle or tulle into a “rosette”. Fix the fabric flower on the lampshade with glue, dropping just a little into the very middle of the rose. This way you will create a fluffy ball.
  3. Place a flashlight or inside the lampshade. Show the result to your baby and watch his joyful reaction.

LED night light

To make an unusual and beautiful LED night light that can be placed in a nursery, you need to prepare a pair of transparent plastic tubes with unequal diameters. You will also need LEDs with the desired brightness and color range. Also prepare glass pebbles, wire, a larger cork, superglue, pliers and a board for the LEDs.

  1. Bend the ends of the LEDs with pliers.
  2. Connect all LED bulbs with a piece of wire in a parallel circuit, observing polarity.
  3. Connect the ends of the wire to the board.
  4. Check the working part of the night light, if the LEDs get very hot, add a resistor to the circuit.
  5. Glue the tubes one into the other. Place decorative balls into the void.
  6. Place the LED plug onto the tube. If the diameter of the plug is larger than the tube, make a seal from a leather belt.
  7. The LED night light is ready, you can turn it on.

Safety of night lighting

As is clear from the above examples, there are a huge number of designer models of homemade lamps. There are different techniques for working with decorative materials to create a variety of lighting effects.

However, behind the beauty of the night light, you should not forget about the safety of yourself and your family. To this end, you should be especially careful when considering the power supply circuit for the light source.

Many home craftsmen believe that compact nightlights have minimal power and low voltage, which in itself should protect against problems. This is not entirely true. A voltage of 12 volts for a halogen light bulb or 3 volts for an LED power supply does not pose a threat to the human body. However, if a short circuit occurs, an electrical arc will form at the point of contact. At the same moment, a current will pass through the wires, which can heat the insulation to the point of fire. In this case, the power supply may operate in overload mode, but the shield will not react. That is why it is necessary to protect the wiring of such light sources with a fuse. After the electrical wiring at the output of the power supply is protected, you need to pay attention to the electrical safety of the board itself. It is enclosed in a reliable housing, which is especially important for lamps in children's rooms, where children may try to disassemble the night light.

Night table lamps and sconces, in addition to their direct functional purpose, play an important role in the interior design of the room. At the same time, self-made structures will compare favorably with mass-produced designs in their originality.

We will tell you in detail how to make a night light with your own hands from scrap materials (for example, plywood, disks, paper, nylon, etc.). But before moving on to the design, let's start with the main thing - the electrical circuit of the device.

Options for night light patterns

If it is planned to install lamps with an E27 or E14 base as light sources in nightlights or sconces, then a standard connection diagram will be used, which is so simple that it does not need explanation.

Regulating the level of light flux is a rather useful function for a night light; an example of the implementation of such a device (dimmer) is shown in the figure.

Elements used:

  • D1 – dinistor DB3;
  • D2—trinistor VTA12;

Resistors and capacitor:

  • R1 – nominal 500 kOhm;
  • R2 - 4.7 kOhm, in many similar circuits the power of the resistor is 0.125 W, which leads to overheating, given that this resistance is used as a quenching resistance, 2 W is the minimum for it;
  • C – capacitance 0.1 mKF 250 V.

Note that when implementing this scheme, the lamp may flicker and the brightness may be adjusted intermittently. As a rule, this indicates problems with the dinistor. Actually, the scheme is far from perfect and is given as an example of the simplest implementation.

It should be noted that the lighting level can only be adjusted if an incandescent lamp is used. Considering the power of such a lighting source, implementation will be unprofitable. An alternative is LEDs.

LED circuits

Making an LED night light with your own hands is not as difficult as it seems, especially since the miniature nature of such a source allows it to be mounted in almost any beautiful decorative lampshade, for example, a wooden house. An example of such a design is shown in the figure.

The circuit of an LED lamp will be a little more complicated than that of a night light that uses an incandescent lamp. An example of such an implementation is shown in the figure.

The circuit shown in the figure will require the following radio components:

  • D1 - D4 - you can use any rectifier diodes designed for a minimum voltage of 400 V and a current of 400 mA;
  • VD1 – VD4 – any type of ultra-bright LEDs, designed for voltage from 3.0 to 3.6 V;
  • C1 – non-polar capacitor with a capacity of 0.15 µF and a voltage of at least 250 V;
  • C2 – electrolytic type capacitor 10 μF 50 V;
  • Resistors: R1 with a nominal value of 680 kOhm, R2 - 560 Ohm.
  • S1 – any switch.

You can set the night light to turn on automatically when the room gets dark. To do this, you will need to slightly complicate the circuit by adding a switch based on a transistor, as shown in the figure.

Elements added to the diagram:

  • D5 – any zener diode for a voltage of 15 V;
  • RF1 – photoresistor, for example, FSK-1;
  • R3 – variable resistor 470 kOhm, adjusts the response threshold;
  • R4 – 2.2 kOhm;
  • VT1 – transistor KT315G or equivalent.

Note that for normal operation of the circuit, it is necessary to ensure that the light from the night lamp does not fall on the photoresistor.

Phone charger as a power supply

If you still have a charger from your old phone, you can use it to power an LED night light. In this case, it will be necessary to install only a limiting resistance, as shown in the figure.

To calculate resistance R1, you can use the formula derived from Ohm's law:

R1=(U source - U consumption)/I consumption;

Explanation of the formula:

U source – source voltage, the charger is usually 6 volts;

U consumption - consumed voltage, for typical LEDs from 2.8 to 3.6 volts, for calculation it is necessary to take the minimum value, that is, 2.8 V;

I consumption - current consumption, for one LED it is about 20 mA, respectively, for three it will be 60 mA.

In our case, resistance R1 = (6 - 2.8)/0.06 = 53.33, the closest resistor value is 56 Ohms.

Sound control of night light

A sound switch for a night light is not so difficult to make with your own hands; an example of such a circuit is shown in the figure. Thanks to this device, you can turn on the night light without leaving your bed. If you install such a device in a room for newborns, it will turn on the light as soon as the baby starts crying.

List of used radio components:

  • resistors: R1 – 5.6 kOhm, R2 – 3.3 MOhm, R3 – 33 kOhm; R4 – 1.8 kOhm, R5 – 47 kOhm, R6 – 330 Ohm, R7 – from 39 to 150 Ohm (depending on the supply voltage, the calculation is carried out in the same way as described above for charging the phone);
  • capacitors: C1 -0.1 µF, C2 - 4.7 µF 16 V;
  • VD1-VD3 – any ultra-bright LEDs with a current consumption of 20 mA and a voltage from 2.8 to 3.6 volts;
  • transistors: VT1 and VT2 – KT315G, VT3 – KT818B (you can use other transistors with similar characteristics);
  • MIC is a regular headphone microphone.

Note that this device can be used to control devices operating on a 220 volt network. To do this, remove the resistor R7 and the LEDs; instead, install a relay, the coil of which is connected instead of the LEDs, and install a diode, for example, 1N4007 or its equivalent, in parallel with the relay.

A table lamp, wall lamp, floor lamp, garlands, LED strips, as well as any household electrical appliances, including a range hood (for example, you can connect a treadmill exercise machine) can be connected to the sound switch.

After you have chosen the scheme for the night lamp, you can begin to design the device; here everything depends on your imagination. Let's show an example of an original design.

Starry sky

A homemade projector night light will project the starry sky onto the walls of the room.

You can make such an original lampshade for a night light from an ordinary can or plastic bottle.

For this we need:

  • plastic bottle (it is better to take a regular glass jar with a volume of 0.5 liters);
  • thick foil;
  • scissors and awl.

Manufacturing process:

  1. cut out a rectangle from a piece of foil (so that, rolled into a tube, it fits into the jar) and a circle with a diameter equal to the bottom of the jar;
  2. Using an awl, we pierce holes in the foil that will imitate stars; you can make several constellations, for example, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. To make the constellations better recognizable, cut stretch lines between the stars in the foil;
  3. place the cut out circle on the bottom of the jar (you can use glue to fix it);
  4. We insert a rectangular piece of foil into the jar so that it completely covers the walls.

The lampshade for the night light is ready. The electronic circuit of the device can be placed in a plastic jar lid.

As you can see, using practically available materials, it is not difficult to make a night light with your own hands. You can come up with your own original and unusual designs; there are no limits to your imagination.

A beautiful night light in the bedroom will create a favorable atmosphere and help children get rid of their fears. Such electrical appliances do not consume huge amounts of electricity and have a wide variety. Of course, you can buy a device in a store - but this is too simple; it is much more pleasant to make, for example, a night light from wood with your own hands.

Product safety

Before we look at how to make a night light with your own hands, you should worry about safety. On various Internet sites you can easily find various examples of decorative decorations and night lamps. With their help you can create various colorful visual effects.

The home DIYer can visit these sites and various forums to look for inspiration, but at the same time pay attention to the safety of power plans. There is an opinion that low supply voltage and low power of miniature light sources are safe, but this is not the case.

Yes, 3 volts for powering LEDs or the 12 V voltage required for a lamp bulb do not pose a direct threat when in contact with a person. But a short circuit may occur at the point of contact where an electric arc occurs, and current will flow through the wires, capable of heating the insulation to ignition temperature.

In this case, the power supply will operate in overload mode for a long time, and the circuit breaker will not respond.

When creating your own night lights and power supplies for them, you need to protect the wiring with a fuse.

After you have secured the electrical wiring at the output of the power supply, you need to secure the board itself by enclosing it in a housing.

LED night light

An interesting night light can be made from LEDs and a regular bottle. In addition, the process itself is quite simple and does not take much time. To create it you need tools and materials:

Let's move on to creating the lamp:

  1. The first step is to wash the bottle outside and inside.
  2. Then on the side, at the very bottom of the bottle, you need to drill a hole for the wires.
  3. Next, you need to pass the wire into the drilled hole and out through the neck.
  4. Strip the ends of the wire and make a knot 2-3 cm before the edge of the wire so that it does not fall out of the bottle.
  5. The next step is to cut off the plug from the garland and strip the ends.
  6. Then insulate the wires with electrical tape.
  • Place the garland obtained in this way into a bottle. The neck remains open.

That's all, your DIY LED night light is ready.

Starry sky

The next night light, which can be made literally from scrap materials, will be the “Starry Sky” night light. Its main advantage is that it does not require a network connection. It works thanks to a small flashlight that is powered by regular batteries.

Necessary materials and tools: glass jar with a lid, foil, scissors, awl, metal tray, small flashlight. Procedure:

  1. The first thing to do is draw a diagram of the starry sky on the foil. To make it look beautiful, you have to try.
  2. Then, you need to place the foil on a tray and use an awl to pierce the stars drawn on it.
  3. The next step is to cut off the excess part of the foil. The height of the foil should match the height of the jar. You need to roll the foil into a tube and insert it into the jar.
  4. Place a flashlight at the bottom of the jar and turn it on.

Now you can enjoy the starry sky without leaving your home.

Lace lamp

An elegant device can be made using lace as the main material. Such a lamp will add individuality to the interior.

To make it you will need: a cloth with lace, a jar, threads and needles, a flashlight and scissors.

Main stages:

  • It is necessary to wash the jar and remove the label from it.
  • You need to wrap the jar with lace.
  • The next step is to sew up the edges of the lace.
  • You can place the flashlight at the bottom of the jar and enjoy the process.

Wooden product

A wonderful night light can be made from a simple log. It does not require a lot of materials and financial investments. Required tools and materials:

Step 1. You need to cut wheels from a log, and two wheels are larger than the others.

Step 2. Find the center of the wheels and drill through holes, and in two large ones - blind holes.

Step 3. Using sandpaper, we clean the wheels so that there are no splinters.

Step 4. It is necessary to coat the holes with glue.

Step 5. Then varnish the workpieces.

Step 6. Now you can install the blanks on the rail and pass the LED strip through them.

Night light with butterflies

This version of the night light is considered more feminine and would be more suitable for a girl’s room or for a romantic dinner.

Necessary materials for its manufacture:

  • Wire 50 cm.
  • 2 sheets of white paper.
  • Glass/plastic jar.
  • Candle or flashlight.
  • Butterfly stencil.

Let's move on to production:

The resulting lamp will be an excellent addition to any interior.

Crafts made from tulle

The next way to make a night light is a tulle lamp. In this case, you will need: tulle, a round lampshade, a garland or flashlight and glue.

Manufacturing proceeds as follows:

  • First of all, the tulle is cut into circles.
  • Next, tulle is taken and folded in the form of a rose on the lampshade and fixed to it with glue. The tulle rose is glued only in the middle.
  • This way the entire ball is shaped.
  • A flashlight or garland is placed inside.

The result is a beautiful lamp.

In these simple ways you can build a night light with your own hands from scrap materials. Moreover, it only takes 5-10 minutes to make.
